Isocyanate-free synthesis of ureas and polyureas via ruthenium catalyzed dehydrogenation of amines and formamides

Christopher R. Langsted et al.

Summary: Ethyl formate facilitates the formylation of amines and diamines to form formamides and diformamides, which can be further dehydrogenated to produce ureas and polyureas using ruthenium pincer catalysts. The synthetic approach allows for the preparation of ureas and polyureas with high molecular weights without the use of high pressure conditions or isocyanates, addressing health concerns associated with the latter.

Hydrogenative Depolymerization of Polyurethanes Catalyzed by a Manganese Pincer Complex

Viktoriia Zubar et al.

Summary: This report discusses the promising method of utilizing plastic waste through chemical recycling, specifically hydrogenative depolymerization using a Mn pincer complex catalyst. The key to success lies in the combination of the catalyst with elevated temperatures and appropriate solvents to ensure sufficient solubility of the polymers. The process successfully depolymerizes a wide range of polyurethane samples, releasing polyetherols and diaminotoluene in high yields.

Homogeneous (De)hydrogenative Catalysis for Circular Chemistry - Using Waste as a Resource

Amit Kumar et al.

Summary: The increasing production and usage of consumer products and energy sources have led to the accumulation of toxic waste products, posing a severe threat to the planet. The concept of circular chemistry proposes the utilization of waste products as feedstocks for useful chemicals, with catalytic (de)hydrogenation being a green and sustainable approach. Studies on homogeneous catalytic (de)hydrogenation have shown potential to convert chemical wastes into valuable resources, with examples including CO2, N2O, plastics, and glycerol as waste materials for transformation.

Manganese-Catalyzed Dehydrogenative Silylation of Alkenes Following Two Parallel Inner-Sphere Pathways

Stefan Weber et al.

Summary: A novel manganese(I)-catalyzed dehydrogenative silylation reaction was reported, using an alkyl bisphosphine manganese(I) complex as the most active precatalyst. The reaction efficiently converted a variety of aromatic and aliphatic alkenes to their corresponding products with high selectivity at room temperature. Insights into the mechanism were provided based on experimental data and DFT calculations, revealing two parallel reaction pathways.

Double-Carrousel Mechanism for Mn-Catalyzed Dehydrogenative Amide Synthesis from Alcohols and Amines

Jesus A. Luque-Urrutia et al.

Summary: The mechanism of a base-metal-catalyzed synthesis of amides from alcohols and amines was studied using density functional theory calculations. The proposed reaction mechanism differs from the preliminary proposal, suggesting a simpler protocol. The catalyst first converts alcohols into aldehydes, which then react with amines to form the desired amides.
