Organoboron molecules and polymers for organic solar cell applications

Junhui Miao et al.

Summary: Organic solar cells (OSCs) with organoboron materials show great potential in enhancing device performance, with the ability to tune optoelectronic properties and increase power conversion efficiency (PCE). Although PCEs of 16% and 14% have been achieved with organoboron polymer electron donors and acceptors, there are still opportunities and challenges in further improving OSC device performance using organoboron photovoltaic materials.

Cyclic (Alkyl)(amino)carbenes: Synthesis of Iminium Precursors and Structural Properties

Francois Vermersch et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple and versatile method for synthesizing cyclic (alkyl)(amino)-carbene (CAAC) iminium precursors using readily available preallylated aldehydes is reported. The specific steric properties of CAAC ligands in comparison to state-of-the-art phosphene and carbene ligands are further elaborated using crystallographic data and steric maps.

Origins of Internal Regioselectivity in Copper-Catalyzed Borylation of Terminal Alkynes

Takumi Tsushima et al.

Summary: The highly internal-selective borylation of terminal alkynes under copper catalysis was achieved by diminishing boron-Lewis acidity and introducing ligand-derived steric bulk around a copper center. The use of an anthranilamide-substituted boron moiety enabled internal regioselectivity and Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling activity to be compatibly achieved, providing a direct and universal approach to variously substituted branched alkenylboron compounds.

Cyclic (Alkyl)(amino)carbene Ligands Enable Cu-Catalyzed Markovnikov Protoboration and Protosilylation of Terminal Alkynes: A Versatile Portal to Functionalized Alkenes**

Yang Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, a selective copper-catalyzed Markovnikov hydrofunctionalization of terminal alkynes is described, facilitated by strongly donating cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene (CAAC) ligands. The reaction allows coupling of both alkyl- and aryl-substituted alkynes with a variety of boryl and silyl reagents with high alpha-selectivity. The versatile intermediates produced are scalable and can participate in various downstream transformations.
