Dispersion and Steric Effects on Enantio-/Diastereoselectivities in Synergistic Dual Transition-Metal Catalysis

Bo Li et al.

Summary: Comprehensive computational studies were conducted to investigate the mechanisms of enantioselective Cu/Pd and stereodivergent Cu/Ir dual-catalytic syntheses of alpha,alpha-disubstituted alpha-amino acids (alpha-AAs). The results demonstrate how ligand-encoded chiral information is transferred to the alpha-/beta-sites of the resulting alpha-AAs and how the mode of regio-/stereoselection is altered by differences in transition-metal-stabilized coupling partners.

Cp*Co(III)-Catalyzed Enantioselective Hydroarylation of Unactivated Terminal Alkenes via C-H Activation

Yan-Hua Liu et al.

Summary: The study reports a Cp*Co(III)-catalyzed asymmetric hydroarylation of unactivated aliphatic terminal alkenes assisted by tailor-made amino acid ligands. A novel noncovalent interaction was found critical for the chiral induction, resulting in high yields and excellent enantioselectivities of C2-alkylated indoles. DFT calculations revealed the reaction mechanism and origins of chiral induction in the stereodetermining alkene insertion step.

Enantioselective Access to Spirolactams via Nitrenoid Transfer Enabled by Enhanced Noncovalent Interactions

Euijae Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigates the enantioselective access to chiral spirolactam products via nitrenoid transfer to aromatic ipso-carbons catalyzed by Ir, highlighting the importance of enhancing secondary interactions between chiral catalysts and substrates through the introduction of a traceless O-silyl achiral auxiliary, effectively differentiating two prochiral faces of the substrates based on arenol-derived 1,4,2-dioxazol-5-one.

Mechanistic Study of Enantioselective Pd-Catalyzed C(sp3)-H Activation of Thioethers Involving Two Distinct Stereomodels

Tyler G. Saint-Denis et al.

Summary: Enantioselective C(sp(3))-H activation has attracted significant interest, but the mechanisms responsible for enantioselection remain unclear. This study found extreme sensitivity differences in two substrate classes, leading to high enantiomeric ratios for thioether-directed-C(sp(3))-H arylation. The exploitation of transient chirality at sulfur was key to achieving stereochemical information transfer from ligand backbone to substrate carbons.
