Enormous Promotion of Photocatalytic Activity through the Use of Near-Single Layer Covalent Organic Frameworks

Xiaomin Ren et al.

Summary: Enhancing the charge separation efficiency is an effective strategy to improve the photocatalytic activity of covalent organic frameworks (COFs). This work reports a sevenfold increase in apparent quantum efficiency by using a near-single layer COF compared to bulk COF in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. The study also highlights the significant influence of COF layer thickness on charge separation efficiency, providing a new route for preparing and stabilizing COF layers for practical applications.

Summary: In this study, the researchers investigated the excitation energy-dependent pathways of internal photo-induced charge transfer in rhenium(I)-carbonyl-diimine complexes/covalent organic frameworks hybrid catalysts. The findings revealed that under high-energy photon excitation, the electron transfer pathway resulted in longer-lived excited states, facilitating the conversion of carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide.

Boosting the Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution Activity for D-π-A Conjugated Microporous Polymers by Statistical Copolymerization

Chang Shu et al.

Summary: This study developed a series of donor-pi-acceptor (D-pi-A) conjugated organic copolymer photocatalysts by tuning the feed molar ratio of pyrene to dibenzothiophene-S,S-dioxide units, demonstrating high efficiency in hydrogen generation. The photocatalytic activity of the copolymers significantly depends on the molar ratio of donor to acceptor, showing potential for optimizing polymer structure and enhancing photocatalytic performance. The research highlights the efficiency of statistical copolymerization as a strategy to improve the activity of conjugated organic polymer catalysts.

Summary: This study investigates the structure-property relationships of COFs and their impact on photocatalytic performance. It is found that the backbone and substituents of COFs play important roles in influencing their band gap, spectral absorption, and carrier separation. TpPa-Cl2 demonstrates the best photocatalytic performance for hydrogen production among the studied COFs.

A general design approach toward covalent organic frameworks for highly efficient electrochemiluminescence

Ya-Jie Li et al.

Summary: Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) plays a key role in analysis and sensing, but its application is limited by a lack of highly tunable luminophores. The authors demonstrate the design of highly efficient ECL luminophores of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) in aqueous media by simultaneously restricting the donor and acceptor to the COFs' electron configurations and constructing charge transport networks through olefin linkages.

Photocatalytic polymers of intrinsic microporosity for hydrogen production from water

Yang Bai et al.

Summary: The most common strategy for introducing porosity into organic polymer photocatalysts is the synthesis of cross-linked conjugated networks or frameworks. The study found that certain linear conjugated polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs) showed high photocatalytic performance for hydrogen production from water in the presence of a hole scavenger, with P38 demonstrating the highest sacrificial hydrogen evolution rate and external quantum efficiency among the polymer photocatalysts reported to date for this reaction.
