A solution to the complement of the generalized Luneburg lens problem

Nelson J. G. Fonseca et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new optical problem and its solution for a novel type of lens, providing refractive index profiles of corresponding inhomogeneous lenses through analogy between classical mechanics and geometrical optics. The focusing properties of such lenses are validated using ray-tracing models and full-wave simulations.

Dielectric slot-coupled half-Maxwell fisheye lens as octave-bandwidth beam expander for terahertz-range applications

Daniel Headland et al.

Summary: The research presents a paradigm for integrated photonic devices based on broadband slab-confined collimated beams launched with half-Maxwell fisheye lenses. The highly efficient collimators have a bandwidth greater than one octave and are suitable for terahertz technology, offering a compact, mass-producible alternative to free-space optics.
