Non-Majorana states yield nearly quantized conductance in proximatized nanowires

P. Yu et al.

Summary: This study reports the observation of nearly quantized peaks close to the expected value by tunnel probes on both ends of a nanowire. However, the nearly quantized zero-bias peaks were only found localized to one end of the nanowire, raising doubts on whether they are Majoranas.

Phase Signature of Topological Transition in Josephson Junctions

Matthieu C. Dartiailh et al.

Summary: The research involves embedding two gate-tunable Al/InAs Josephson junctions in a loop geometry, where a pi jump in the junction phase is observed with an increasing in-plane magnetic field. This jump, accompanied by a minimum of the critical current, suggests a closing and reopening of the superconducting gap, showing strong anisotropy. The study's theory confirms that these signatures of a topological transition are consistent with the emergence of Majorana bound states.

Topological superconductivity in skyrmion lattices

Eric Mascot et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates the unprecedented ability to control the emergence of topological phases by changing the skyrmion radius in two-dimensional MSH systems containing a magnetic skyrmion lattice. Josephson scanning tunneling spectroscopy spatially visualizes the induced spin-triplet correlations, a crucial aspect underlying the emergence of topological superconductivity in these systems.

Local Control of Supercurrent Density in Epitaxial Planar Josephson Junctions

Bassel Heiba Elfeky et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates how local control of current distribution can be achieved in a Josephson junction using minigates, forming superconducting quantum interference devices. The enhanced edge conduction in long junctions can be eliminated by minigates to create a uniform current distribution.

Tuning Supercurrent in Josephson Field-Effect Transistors Using h-BN Dielectric

Fatemeh Barati et al.

Summary: Epitaxial Al-InAs heterostructures with gate-tunable JJ-FETs show promise for exploring mesoscopic and topological superconductivity. By using mechanically exfoliated h-BN as the gate dielectric, full gate-tunability of supercurrent can be achieved on Al-InAs JJ-FETs while preserving the pristine properties of Josephson junctions. Additionally, h-BN dielectric causes less change in channel density compared to Al2O3 atomic layer deposition.

Cubic spin-orbit coupling and anomalous Josephson effect in planar junctions

Mohammad Alidoust et al.

Summary: Recent research has uncovered a class of materials characterized by dominant SOC cubic in the wave vector, with unexplored superconducting properties. Experimental studies of Josephson junctions in these materials have revealed a strongly anharmonic current-phase relation and complex spin structure. The unique f-wave spin-triplet superconducting correlations in Josephson junctions with cSOC are important for superconducting spintronics and supporting Majorana bound states.

Crystalline anisotropic topological superconductivity in planar Josephson junctions

Joseph D. Pakizer et al.

Summary: This theoretical study investigates the crystalline anisotropy of topological phase transitions in phase-controlled planar Josephson junctions subject to spin-orbit coupling and in-plane magnetic fields. The interplay between the magnetic field and the orientation of the junction with respect to its crystallographic axes can be used to electrically tune between different symmetry classes, optimizing the stability and localization of Majorana bound states. These findings provide guidance for engineering topological superconductivity in planar JJs, especially for setups containing noncollinear junctions proposed for braiding operations on multiple Majorana pairs.
