What happens under the flag of direct observation, and how that matters: A qualitative study in general practice residency

Chris B. T. Rietmeijer et al.

Summary: The study found that in the training of residents' technical skills, there is often a temporary, one-way pattern of direct observation. This pattern may lead to various unpredictable and sometimes unwanted situations, causing residents to be unwilling to discuss unwanted situations with supervisors and even to refuse future requests for DO or help.
