YouTube as a Source of Patient Information for Prenatal Repair of Myelomeningocele

Summary: This study analyzed the content and shortcomings of YouTube videos regarding prenatal repair of MMCs. Out of 16 videos evaluated, majority were produced by professional sources and targeted towards the general public rather than medical professionals. The videos provided more information on procedure details, eligibility criteria, and alternatives to surgery, but lacked discussion on surgical risks and success rates.

Online Information for Colorectal Cancer Screening: A Content Analysis of YouTube Videos

Summary: This study identified and analyzed videos related to colorectal cancer and screening, categorizing them into very useful (4.5%), moderately useful (18.5%), somewhat useful (38.9%), and not useful (38.2%) based on a usefulness scale compiled by medical professionals. Less useful videos had more views and public engagement compared to more useful videos, which were released by more credible sources. There was a significant association between video length and level of usefulness, as well as between video source and usefulness. This study highlights the need for better educational healthcare resources and/or filtration on widely accessible platforms like YouTube.

Summary: This study evaluated the content, reliability, and quality of the most viewed English-language YouTube videos on SpA. Majority of videos were found to have useful information, but misleading patient opinions on alternative therapies were identified, predominantly uploaded by patients. Healthcare professional-made videos were found to have more useful information, higher reliability, and GQS scores.
