Dynamics of a disinhibitory prefrontal microcircuit in controlling social competition

Chaoyi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study reveals the crucial role of VIP and PV neuron activation in regulating winning behavior in social competition. The study also uncovers the sequential calcium activities initiated by VIP in the dmPFC microcircuit and the delayed activation of PV neurons.

Nanocomposite Coatings Based on Polyvinyl Alcohol and Montmorillonite for High-Barrier Food Packaging

Stefan Schiessl et al.

Summary: Materials with high barrier properties against oxygen are crucial for the packaging of sensitive foods. This study investigates the use of nanocomposite coatings, incorporating stick-shaped halloysite or platelet-shaped montmorillonite silicate nanoparticles, to enhance the barrier properties of unmodified polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The experimental results show that the addition of 30% platelet-shaped MMT nanoparticles increases the barrier performance of PVA by a factor of 12 for oxygen and 17 for helium.
