Flexural and Dynamic Mechanical Properties of Alkali-Treated Coir/Pineapple Leaf Fibres Reinforced Polylactic Acid Hybrid Biocomposites

Ramengmawii Siakeng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of incorporating untreated and alkali-treated Coir Fibres (CF) and pineapple leaf fibres (PALF) into PLA biocomposites on flexural, morphological, and dynamic mechanical properties. The results show that the treated C1P1 hybrid composites (C1P1A) exhibited the highest flexural strength and modulus, with good fibre-matrix adhesion observed in untreated and treated biocomposites. Dynamic mechanical analysis revealed that C1P1A had the highest glass transition temperature and storage modulus, making it a promising material for various lightweight industrial applications.

A comparative evaluation of chemical, mechanical, and thermal properties of oil palm fiber/pineapple fiber reinforced phenolic hybrid composites

Mohammad Jawaid et al.

Summary: In this study, OPF and PALF reinforced biophenolic resin composites and hybrid composites were fabricated and analyzed for their structural, thermal, and mechanical properties. Results showed that the hybrid composites exhibited better properties compared to pure composites, with improved tensile, flexural, and thermal stability. The reinforcement of pure and hybrid composites into the matrix also enhanced storage and loss moduli, with significant improvements observed in the pure composite samples. Additionally, the damping factor was significantly reduced by the reinforcement of hybrid composites. This study suggests that the obtained hybrid composites are suitable for various structural and nonstructural applications.
