Revealing morphological characteristics of Goniodorididae genera (Mollusca: Nudibranchia)

Sofia Paz-Sedano et al.

Summary: Detailed knowledge of species anatomy is crucial for taxonomic studies, especially when considering type species. Many species, particularly in invertebrates, lack detailed descriptions. The little-known family Goniodorididae includes eight genera, with unclear systematics.

Molecular phylogeny of European Runcinida (Gastropoda, Heterobranchia): the discover of an unexpected pool of complex species, with special reference to the case of Runcina coronata

Ana Karla Araujo et al.

Summary: This study presents the first molecular phylogeny of the small sea slug order Runcinida, with a focus on European species, and discusses the taxonomic status of the type species Runcina coronata. The results reveal the monophyly of Runcinida and indicate that Runcina coronata is a complex of four species.

Undressing Lophodoris danielsseni (Friele & Hansen, 1878) (Nudibranchia: Goniodorididae)

Sofia Paz-Sedano et al.

Summary: The study focused on morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of one species within the genus Lophodoris, using micro-computed tomography and scanning electron microscopy for the first time. Results revealed the phylogenetic relationship of the species within the family Goniodorididae, separating each included genus. Further sequencing of more species is needed to clarify the evolutionary relationships among Goniodorididae species and genera.

A molecular phylogeny of Thuridilla Bergh, 1872 sea slugs (Gastropoda, Sacoglossa) reveals a case of flamboyant and cryptic radiation in the marine realm

Maria del Rosario Martin-Hervas et al.

Summary: The genus Thuridilla comprises mostly tropical sap-sucking sea slugs species with flamboyantly coloured forms. A study found a radiation named the Thuridilla gracilis species-complex, including named species T. gracilis, T. splendens, T. bayeri, and T. ratna, plus nine undescribed species. This radiation led to an underestimation of diversity in Thuridilla by about 25% and provides a new comparative system for studying the role of color patterns in marine diversification.

An ocean yet to be discovered: increasing systematic knowledge of Indo-Pacific Okenia Menke, 1830 (Nudibranchia: Goniodorididae)

Sofia Paz-Sedano et al.

Summary: Numerous faunistic and ecological studies have been conducted in the Indo-Pacific Ocean to assess its biodiversity, with a focus on the genus Okenia Menke, which has a high species richness in the region. This study describes five new Okenia species from coastlines in Japan, Mozambique, and Australia, while also providing anatomical details and phylogenetic analysis of previously undescribed Okenia species. New partial sequences of standard markers were obtained for further research on Okenia biodiversity.
