Integrated Analysis of Gene Expression and Metabolite Data Reveals Candidate Molecular Markers in Colorectal Carcinoma

Junsheng Yang et al.

Summary: This study identified potential gene targets and metabolite markers associated with colorectal carcinoma (CRC) through gene differential analysis, functional analysis, protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis, and metabolite network construction. The results revealed that the CXCL1/CXCL8/IL1B/PTGS2-prostaglandin E2 axes were potential signatures involved in CRC progression.

Landscapes and bacterial signatures of mucosa-associated intestinal microbiota in Chilean and Spanish patients with inflammatory bowel disease

Nayaret Chamorro et al.

Summary: The study found that patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) have dysbiosis characterized by an increase in pro-inflammatory bacteria and a decrease in beneficial bacteria. The development of the disease is related to alterations in the gut microbiota, but the mechanisms are not fully understood. The research also identified a panel of bacterial biomarkers that can distinguish between a healthy gut microbiota and dysbiosis with high accuracy, which could be used for developing non-invasive diagnostic methods.

ANGPTL4-Mediated Promotion of Glycolysis Facilitates the Colonization of Fusobacterium nucleatum in Colorectal Cancer

Xin Zheng et al.

Summary: The study reveals that F. nucleatum infection leads to increased expression of ANGPTL4 in colorectal cancer cells, promoting glucose uptake and glycolysis activity essential for colonization. Furthermore, increased acetylation of histone H3 lysine 27 is observed in F. nucleatum-infected cells and patient tumors, contributing to the transcriptional upregulation of ANGPTIA. This metabolic reprogramming induced by F. nucleaturn is crucial for its persistence in colorectal cancer and may serve as a potential target for clinical intervention.

F. nucleatum targets lncRNA ENO1-IT1 to promote glycolysis and oncogenesis in colorectal cancer

Jie Hong et al.

Summary: The study revealed a positive correlation between Fusobacterium nucleatum and high glucose metabolism in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), suggesting a potential role of gut microbiota in CRC development. Mechanistically, Fusobacterium nucleatum activated the lncRNA ENO1-IT1 pathway to regulate CRC cell glucose metabolism and biological functions. Targeting the ENO1 pathway may have therapeutic implications for CRC patients with elevated Fusobacterium nucleatum levels.

Inducible mouse models of colon cancer for the analysis of sporadic and inflammation-driven tumor progression and lymph node metastasis

Clemens Neufert et al.

Summary: This protocol introduces a method utilizing mouse models to study colorectal cancer, including induction of tumor growth using azoxymethane and dextran sodium sulfate. Through analysis of tumor growth and metastasis, researchers can gain insights into mechanisms of tumor development, suitable for early assessment of novel drugs and clinical treatment strategies.

A RAC-GEF network critical for early intestinal tumourigenesis

K. A. Pickering et al.

Summary: Indirect targeting of RAC1 via RAC-GEFs can effectively suppress hyperproliferation and tumorigenesis in the murine intestine without affecting normal intestinal homeostasis. Combined targeting of three RAC-GEFs can effectively inhibit RAC1 activity and delay intestinal tumorigenesis.

Unexpected guests in the tumor microenvironment: microbiome in cancer

Abigail Wong-Rolle et al.

Summary: The local microbiota play a significant role in the tumor microenvironment across various types of cancer, particularly in cancers originating from mucosal sites like the lung, skin, and gastrointestinal tract. The populations of bacteria specific to tumors have been found to be tumor-type specific and may directly regulate cancer initiation, progression, and responses to treatments.

Gut Microbiota in Tumor Microenvironment: A Critical Regulator in Cancer Initiation and Development as Potential Targets for Chinese Medicine

Li Wang et al.

Summary: Cancer is a disease with high mortality and disability rates, consisting of cancer cells, surrounding microenvironment, and tumor microenvironment. Accumulating evidence has shown that gut microbiota profoundly influences cancer initiation and progression, with gut dysbiosis reshaping the tumor microenvironment to favor tumor growth. Traditional Chinese medicine has been increasingly recognized as a potential treatment for cancer by regulating gut microbiota.

High expression of FABP4 in colorectal cancer and its clinical significance

Yan Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that the level of plasma FABP4 in CRC patients was significantly higher than that in the control group, and was related to tumor TNM staging and lymph node metastasis, independent of age, BMI, tumor size and location, and CRC differentiation degree. High VFA and LPA were identified as risk factors for increasing plasma FABP4 levels in CRC patients. FABP4 was highly expressed in CRC tissues and associated with TNM staging, differentiation, and lymph node metastasis of CRC.
