The influence of freestream turbulence on the temporal pressure distribution and lift of an airfoil

Leon Li et al.

Summary: Increasing turbulence intensity leads to higher maximum lift and lift slope in the linear region, with negligible effects on stall angle. Periodic pressure fluctuations at lower turbulence intensities can reduce time-averaged lift, while at higher turbulence intensities, boundary layer development suppresses these fluctuations and increases lift production.

Wind tunnel experiments on a NACA 633-418 airfoil with different types of leading edge roughness

Emil Krog Kruse et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing zigzag tape heights reduces maximum lift, while drag is less affected by zigzag tape height. Different sandpaper types have almost the same impact on reducing maximum lift, but drag increases with coarseness.

Investigation of the three-dimensional flow past a flatback wind turbine airfoil at high angles of attack

Marinos Manolesos et al.

Summary: Flatback airfoils, commonly used in the inboard part of large wind turbine blades, offer aerodynamic, structural, and aeroelastic benefits. The study reveals the importance of the spanwise extent of the computational domain in successfully simulating the flow, as well as identifies and analyzes a low-drag regime observed before stall. Additionally, the complex interaction between three-dimensional separated flow and vortex shedding from the blunt trailing edge is revealed.
