Band-Gap Tuning in Two-Dimensional Spatiotemporal Phononic Crystals

D. Psiachos et al.

Summary: The study found that in subwavelength-dimensioned phononic crystals with large band gaps, the concept of band gap is destroyed when the radius of cylinders periodically placed inside a matrix of highly contrasting elastic properties varies with time. However, with the appropriate tuning of parameters, some band-gap region can be retained, making such systems possible candidates for tunable bandpass filters or phononic isolators, suitable for sensor applications.

An active meta-layer for optimal flexural wave absorption and cloaking

Xiaopeng Li et al.

Summary: Flexural wave propagation is important in thin structures for vibration control. A theoretical limit for flexural wave absorption has been established, and an active meta-layer design has been proposed for optimal wave absorption and vibration control. This approach has the potential to enable alternative solutions for ultrasonic sensing in complex engineering structures.

Experimental evidence of a hiding zone in a density-near-zero acoustic metamaterial

M. Mallejac et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the feasibility of cloaking obstacles using Plate-type Acoustic Metamaterials (PAMs) and presents two distinct strategies for achieving hiding configuration. The study focuses on dealing with unavoidable losses in the system and reports on the analytical, numerical, and experimental findings of a hiding zone. The comparison between cloaking and hiding configurations highlights the difference in scattering properties and the impact of obstacles on the hiding device.
