Impacts of regional water shortage information disclosure on public acceptance of recycled water - evidences from China's urban residents

Caixia Hou et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of public environmental cognitions on public acceptance of recycled water, finding that regional water shortage information disclosure and awareness of water environment protection positively influence public acceptance of recycled water, while perceptions of health risks have a negative impact. Additionally, regional water shortage information disclosure can boost public environmental cognitions and ultimately enhance public acceptance of recycled water.

Peracetic acid-based advanced oxidation processes for decontamination and disinfection of water: A review

Xiu-wei Ao et al.

Summary: This review provides a comprehensive analysis of scientific information and experimental data on the applications of PAA-based AOPs for the removal of chemical and microbiological micropollutants from water and wastewater. Various methods of PAA activation and degradation mechanisms are discussed, along with the application of PAA for water disinfection and related mechanisms of microorganism inactivation. The review also focuses on the advantages and disadvantages of UV/PAA as an AOP compared to UV/H2O2, highlighting knowledge gaps, challenges, and new opportunities for research in this field.

Critical review of photocatalytic disinfection of bacteria: from noble metals- and carbon nanomaterials-TiO2 composites to challenges of water characteristics and strategic solutions

Juhua He et al.

Summary: This critical review discusses the potential of photocatalysis in water/wastewater disinfection, highlighting efficiency limitations and water characteristic challenges. Improvements to TiO2-based photocatalysts can be made through compositing with noble metals or carbon nanomaterials, while strategies to address water characteristics' impact on photocatalysts and bacteria interaction are also explored.

Reduction of ozone dosage by using ozone in ultrafine bubbles to reduce sludge volume

Kurumi Hashimoto et al.

Summary: Sludge ozonation is a promising technology for reducing waste sludge volume from biological wastewater treatment process. Using ultra-fine bubbles (UFBs) as ozone carriers can improve the efficiency of ozone treatment and reduce the ozone dose required. UFBs reduce the ozone requirement in sludge and contribute to the acceleration of bacterial death in sludge treated with ozone.

Trace endotoxin in reclaimed water is only one of the risk sources in subchronic inhalation exposure

Gang Liu et al.

Summary: Chronic exposure to reclaimed water may cause lung injury and inflammation, with non-TLR4 signaling pathways potentially playing a role. Apart from endotoxin, pollutants in reclaimed water may also induce chronic inflammation in the lung.

Chlorination breakpoint with nitrite in wastewater treatment: A full factorial design experiments

Rehab Khawaga et al.

Summary: This study utilized a model to analyze the most influential operating variables on breakpoint chlorination, using three input factors in experimental design to determine the response variable changes. Results indicated that contact time influences disinfection system, higher concentration of ammonia accelerates NH2Cl destruction, and the effects of ammonia and nitrite on chlorination curve vary depending on the A/N ratio.

UV disinfection studies on chlorine tolerant bacteria recovered from treated sewage

Sandeep Singh Shekhawat et al.

Summary: The study found that chlorine-tolerant bacterium Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is resistant to UV due to its high regrowth potential post-irradiation. In contrast, E.coli and Klebsiella sp. were effectively reduced by UV exposure. This resistance in S. maltophilia may be attributed to cellular aggregation and possible Mn accumulation, as further studies are needed to confirm the mechanism of UV resistance.
