Kinetics and Removal Efficiency of Nitrogen in Constructed Wetlands Cultivated with Different Plant Species for Treating Swine Wastewater Applied at Different Rates

Fatima Resende Luiz Fia et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficiency and kinetics of nitrogen removal in Horizontal Subsurface Flow Constructed Wetlands with different plant species for treating swine wastewater. The results showed that plant species significantly improved nitrogen removal efficiency, and the modified first-order model and residual first-order model were more reliable in describing the nitrogen removal process.

Promotion of bioremediation performance in constructed wetland microcosms for acid mine drainage treatment by using organic substrates and supplementing domestic wastewater and plant litter broth

Jinquan Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, gravel-based subsurface-flow constructed wetlands (CWs) amended with a walnut shell substrate were used to treat synthetic acid mine drainage (AMD), with the addition of artificial domestic wastewater (DW) and plant litter broth (PLB) to enhance performance. The walnut shell-amended CWs showed better metal removal and growth of plants and microbes, while the addition of DW and PLB stimulated sulfate reduction activity. The cooperation among Cellulomonas, Propioniciclava, and sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) played a key role in biogenic mechanism of AMD remediation in the CWs.

Indigenous bacterial community and function in phenanthrene-polluted coastal wetlands: Potential for phenanthrene degradation and relation with soil properties

Zifang Chi et al.

Summary: The study found that PHE pollution affects the soil bacterial community and function, leading to a decrease in bacterial diversity. The structure and function of the bacterial community are influenced by PHE and salinity, with different regions showing different bacterial distribution characteristics.
