Enhanced electrochemical disinfection of domestic aquaculture wastewater with energy production in reverse electrodialysis

Eunjin Jwa et al.

Summary: The study found that reverse electrodialysis (RED) technology can be applied to disinfect aquaculture wastewater by utilizing anodic or cathodic reactions, with higher disinfection efficiency achieved when solutions are circulated. The results support that RED can offer a cost-effective and energy-efficient option for disinfecting aquaculture wastewater.

Electricity generation from salinity gradient to remove chromium using reverse electrodialysis coupled with electrocoagulation

Weihang Zhang et al.

Summary: For the first time, a system coupling reverse electrodialysis with electrocoagulation (RED-EC) achieved electricity generation and simultaneous Cr(VI) removal. By optimizing salinity gradient ratios and adding Cl- ions, the system can remove 99% of Cr(VI) in 2 hours and generate a maximum power density of 0.482 W/m(2).

Enhanced energy recovery using a cascaded reverse electrodialysis stack for salinity gradient power generation

Joo-Youn Nam et al.

Summary: By dividing the 100-cell paired RED stacks into multiple stages, the cascaded stack allows feed water to flow into the first stage and then reuse the effluent in subsequent stages. This approach overcomes typical drawbacks of RED and results in higher net power density and net specific energy production, making it promising for practical applications in reducing feed water volumes and pretreatment processes.
