Alkali metal modified iron-nickel oxygen carrier to produce hydrogen-rich synthesis gas by chemical looping gasification with pine sawdust

Pengcheng Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, iron-nickel oxygen carriers were prepared and utilized in chemical looping gasification experiments to produce hydrogen-rich synthesis gas. The experimental results demonstrated that by adjusting the carrier composition and loading ratio under specific reaction conditions, the volume fraction of hydrogen in the syngas and gasification efficiency could be enhanced.

Cyclic reactivity of the sol-gel and graphite impregnation-derived Cu-based oxygen carriers for chemical looping with oxygen uncoupling

Yang Cao et al.

Summary: This study prepared four oxygen carrier candidates for CLOU for the first time, finding that CuO/ZrO(2) prepared by the graphite impregnation method showed better reactivity and stability compared to others, with agglomeration and sintering of the carriers at high temperatures identified as the main cause of low reactivity over repeated cycles.

Redox Performance of Cu-Doped Fe2O3/Al2O3 as Oxygen Carriers for Chemical Looping Hydrogen Production

Shuoxin Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that copper doping enhanced the activities of iron-based oxygen carriers, but excessive copper would reduce their reactivity due to melting and agglomeration. Hydrogen temperature-programmed reduction (H-2-TPR) analysis, fixed-bed experiments, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirmed that Cu promoted the deep reduction of Fe2O3. The oxygen carrier doped with 1 wt % CuO was the most suitable material for CLH, with the highest hydrogen yield sustained at a high and stable level in multiple redox cycles.

Enhanced resistance to carbon deposition in chemical-looping combustion of methane: Synergistic effect of different oxygen carriers via sequence filling

Xianming Cheng et al.

Summary: Chemical-looping combustion (CLC) is a promising technology for CO2 capture with low energy consumption, but carbon deposition from methane poses a challenge. This study investigated carbon formation behaviors of four typical oxygen carriers (OCs) and proposed a strategy to eliminate carbon by arranging them in a fixed-bed reactor. The findings show that NiO/ZrO2 OC is prone to carbon formation, while CuO/SiO2 OC has high CH4 conversion and minimal carbon formation. Mixing these OCs in a suitable sequence can significantly enhance CLC efficiency and resistance to carbon deposition.

Co-microwave pyrolysis of electroplating sludge and municipal sewage sludge to synergistically improve the immobilization of high-concentration heavy metals and an analysis of the mechanism

Xing Chen et al.

Summary: This study combined microwave pyrolysis technology and the addition of municipal sewage sludge to improve the immobilization of high-concentration heavy metals in electroplating sludge. It was found that co-pyrolysis biochar achieved a significantly higher immobilization rate of HMs, up to 98.00%. The role of organic carbon and inorganic minerals from municipal sewage sludge in immobilizing HMs through physical and chemical effects was highlighted in the study, providing a technical and theoretical basis for the harmless disposal of waste containing multiple HMs with high concentrations.

Rongjiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the biomass chemical looping gasification (BCLG) of torrefied SPF sawdust with Fe2O3 using thermogravimetry-mass spectrometry (TG-MS). The results showed that torrefaction temperature and OC ratio have an impact on the BCLG process, with torrefaction having a positive effect on the gas distribution and reactivity of biochar.

A techno-economic analysis of solar catalytic chemical looping biomass refinery for sustainable production of high purity hydrogen

Baharak Sajjadi et al.

Summary: The study explores the feasibility of developing a solar catalytic chemical looping biomass refinery power plant for sustainable energy production. The results indicate that current efficiency has not been optimized, and water injection rate is one of the most important parameters influencing biomass loading rate. Across different feedstock input rates, using solar PV to supplement refinery power needs can reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Kun Wang et al.

Summary: A Cu-Fe oxygen carrier with oxygen uncoupling capability was proposed for chemical-looping gasification to enhance gasification rate. The optimal molar ratio, oxygen transport capacity, and stability of the composite oxide were determined through experiments. The Cu-Fe OC exhibited good low-temperature oxygen uncoupling characteristics and stable behavior over multiple redox cycles.
