Summary: Difficulties with social interactions and communication continue to be present in adulthood for individuals with autism. This qualitative study explores the range of social participation activities and community contacts that contribute to connection in the perspective of 40 autistic adults. The findings reveal five main contexts where social participation occurs, including vocational settings, neighborhoods, interest groups, support services, inclusive environments, as well as online networks and apps. The implications for practice suggest the importance of engaging with newer social networking platforms, as well as utilizing traditional paths such as employment and support services to support diverse social participation.

Significant predictors of COVID-19 vaccine uptake intentions included education, having insurance, scoring high on subjective norms, a positive attitude toward the vaccine, as well as high perceived susceptibility to COVID-19, high perceived benefits of the vaccine, scoring low on barriers to the vaccine, and scoring high on self-efficacy. Predictors of willingness to take a COVID-19 vaccine under EUA were age, race/ethnicity, positive subjective norms, high perceived behavioral control, positive attitudes toward the vaccine, as well as high perceived susceptibility to COVID-19, high perceived benefits of the vaccine, low barriers to the vaccine, and scoring high on self-efficacy for getting the vaccine.

Summary: Community participation is crucial for overall health and well-being, but there is a lack of research on the experiences and preferences of autistic adults in this area. Results from a statewide survey showed that activities involving social interactions and meeting daily needs are important to autistic adults. Autistic adults with intellectual disabilities participated in fewer activities and rated fewer as important. Varying levels of sufficiency and breadth of participation were observed based on income level, living situation, and co-occurring diagnoses among autistic adults. Autistic adults can offer valuable insights to inform policy and practice as new community participation requirements for Medicaid are implemented nationwide.

Summary: The study tested the effectiveness of using debunking to combat vaccine misinformation and reduce vaccine hesitancy, focusing on elderly participants. By applying debunking strategies in media campaigns on top of vaccine information and social norm modeling, the study found a significant improvement in rejection of vaccination misconceptions and an increase in trust in government among elderly individuals.
