Characteristics of patients with invasive pneumococcal disease requiring admission to intensive care units

Summary: This study analyzed the characteristics of IPD cases requiring admission to the PICU, finding that cases with septic shock, meningitis, and complicated pneumonia were more likely to be admitted. Patients with underlying diseases had a higher admission rate. The serotypes associated with PICU admission were predominantly vaccine serotypes.
