The tribological properties of hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber under different lubricated conditions were investigated, and the wear mechanisms and energy dissipation sources were identified.
It is a common seal failure phenomenon that the hard particles enter the rubbing pair interface, which limits the service life of sealing elements. The tribological properties of the hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber under four lubricated conditions were investigated through a pin-on-disk rubbing pair. The experimental results and analysis show that the wear mechanism of rubber in the drilling mud is fatigue wear and the energy dissipation of rubber comes from the adhesive and hysteretic effects. When the drilling mud contains hard particles, the wear mechanism of rubber is abrasive wear, and the kinematic analysis of hard particles combined with the KelvinVoigt model indicates that the energy dissipation of rubber consists of a friction-driven term, a molecular chain breakage term and a hysteresis recovery term.
