Influences of transient impact and vibration on the lubrication performance of spur gears

Xingbao Huang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a mathematical model of gear elastohydrodynamic lubrication, considering transient impact operating condition and underdamped load condition. The numerical solution shows that transient impact results in significant increases in film pressure and temperature, while thermal effect causes decreases in film thickness. Additionally, vibrational load with high damped frequency leads to greater changes in film thickness and friction coefficient compared to low damped frequency, with a corresponding increase in film temperature.

Numerical prediction of the frictional losses in sliding bearings during start-stop operation

Florian Koenig et al.

Summary: With the increasing use of automotive engine start-stop systems, predicting and reducing frictional losses in sliding bearings has become important. The application of statistical asperity contact models with empirical values for necessary inputs leads to large deviations between experiment and simulation, highlighting the importance of utilizing deterministic contact modeling for reliable friction prediction in sliding bearings during start-stop operations.

Investigations on start-up performances of novel hybrid metal rubber-bump foil bearings

Chuanbing Zhang et al.

Summary: This research studied the start-up performances of novel hybrid metal rubber-bump foil bearings (MR-BFBs) based on rough surface contact and ultra-thin film lubrication theory. The results showed that changes in surface roughness affected the parameters significantly, and increased start-up times led to changes in various parameters and characteristics. Additionally, an increase in composite roughness also influenced the critical rotation speed and start-up time.
