Design of solute clustering during thermomechanical processing of AA6016 Al-Mg-Si alloy

Suqin Zhu et al.

Summary: The study focuses on solute clustering in Al alloys and demonstrates the effects of pre-ageing treatment on clustering states and alloy properties. Utilizing atom probe tomography and density functional theory simulations, the atomic-scale microstructure arising from the thermomechanical process is revealed.

Effect of Heating Rate on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties in Al 7055

Seunggyu Choi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of heating rate during solid solution heat treatment on the mechanical properties and microstructure of 7055 aluminum alloy. Dilatometric tests were conducted to control the heating rates, and a variety of methods were used to evaluate mechanical properties and microstructural features. Characteristics of precipitates for each heating rate were calculated through thermodynamic simulation, and a model for predicting mechanical properties was proposed based on the results.

Micromechanical behavior of multilayered Ti/Nb composites processed by accumulative roll bonding: An in-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction investigation

S. Jiang et al.

Summary: By studying the micromechanical behavior and mechanical properties of multilayered composites, it is found that the Nb layers are strengthened by dislocations, grain boundaries, and heterophase interfaces, while the {211} grains mainly contribute to global strain hardening. The softer Ti grains extend global strain hardening to a wider range and delay necking.

Study on anisotropy of Al-Zn-Mg-Sc-Zr alloy sheet

Yao Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the anisotropy of the Al-Zn-Mg-Sc-Zr alloy sheet in the peak-aged state was analyzed, showing that grain orientation and Schmid factor significantly affect the alloy properties. Samples at 0 degrees and 90 degrees have higher strength but lower elongation due to wider distribution of Schmid factors, while samples at 45 degrees and 60 degrees have lower strength but higher elongation due to narrower distribution of Schmid factors.

Strengthening of aluminium alloy 7005 through imposition of severe plastic deformation supplemented by different ageing treatments

R. Bakhshi et al.

Summary: The study shows that a superior strengthening effect is achieved through the imposition of severe plastic deformation supplemented by post-deformation natural ageing. The yield strength of the alloy increases to over 400 MPa, which is about one-third higher than the value obtained after the usual T6 treatment. This superior strength is mainly attributed to grain refinement, increased dislocation density, and an increased volume fraction of precipitates during natural ageing.

Synthesis of biocompatible high-entropy alloy TiNbZrTaHf by high-pressure torsion

Jeimmy Gonzalez-Masis et al.

Summary: In this study, biocompatible nanostructured high-entropy alloys were successfully synthesized using the high-pressure torsion method. The research compared the characteristics of different alloys and found that as the number of principal elements increased, hardness increased and grain size decreased, but these variations became less significant with further increase in configurational entropy.

Highly interdependent dual precipitation and its effect on mechanical properties of Al-Cu-Sc alloys

H. Xue et al.

Summary: The study compared single and dual precipitation phenomena in different alloys, finding that Al3Sc precipitation was completely suppressed at 723K in the Al-2.4 wt% Cu-0.1 wt% Sc alloy, but unexpectedly promoted at 573K. Moreover, significant Sc-dependence of theta' precipitation was observed in the Al-Cu-Sc alloy at 573K, with a high aspect ratio of >200 for the theta' precipitates.
