Determining degradation kinetics, byproducts and toxicity for the reductive treatment of Nitroguanidine (NQ) by magnesium-based bimetal Mg/Cu

A. Mai et al.

Summary: In this study, the reductive degradation of nitroguanidine (NQ) in aqueous solutions by Mg/Cu bimetal was investigated. Under unadjusted initial pH conditions, 90% of NQ degraded within 30 minutes. The experimentally-derived degradation reaction pathway revealed the formation of various products, with the toxicological assessments indicating specific products were toxic to S. obliquus. Lowering the initial pH promoted the transformation of toxic products to less harmful ones, reducing toxicity and complexity of the by-products.

Structural and magnetic properties of ball-milled powders of (Fe1-xMnx)(75)P15C10 met-glass

M. A. Islam et al.

Summary: This research reports on the structural and magnetic properties of a ball-milled powder sample of (Fe1-xMnx)(75)P15C10 (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3) mixed metallic amorphous ribbons. X-ray diffraction patterns showed a phase transition from amorphous to nanocrystalline structure, leading to changed magnetic properties. The observed changes are attributed to controlled milling and Mn substitution in this mixed metallic alloy system.

The catalytic performance of Cu46Zr47-xAl7Yx amorphous ribbons in the degradation of AO II dye wastewater

Xue Yang et al.

Summary: Metallic glasses with unique disordered atomic stacking structures demonstrate excellent catalytic performance in wastewater treatment. Among the Cu46Zr47-xAl7Yx (x = 0, 1, 3, 5) MGs, the Cu46Zr42Al7Y5 ribbon shows the best catalytic performance, being able to almost completely decolorize dye wastewater within 60 minutes with a degradation efficiency of 96.05% and a chemical oxygen demand removal of 51.73% under specific conditions. Additionally, the Cu46Zr42Al7Y5 MG ribbon exhibits superior structural stability and degradation performance even after repeated use.

Hexavalent chromium reduction by zero-valent magnesium particles in column systems

Alessio Siciliano et al.

Summary: The study conducted experimental research on the removal of chromium using zero valent magnesium particles in a packed batch column, finding that the process performance was significantly influenced by pH values, and the temperature had a correlation with removal yields depending on pH values. The results provide insights into the potential applications of zero valent magnesium in water and wastewater purification.
