Effects of pressure-temperature protocols on the properties of crystals and ageing effects - an analogy with glasses

G. P. Johari et al.

Summary: The properties of a crystal can be used to determine the concentration of point defects, self-diffusion coefficient, and their variation with temperature. Increasing pressure results in a decrease in defect concentration and diffusion coefficient until reaching a pressure where kinetic-freezing of defects occurs. The non-equilibrium state of a crystal can be affected by different cooling and pressurizing protocols, leading to changes in volume, phonon properties, and electrical resistivity. These effects have implications for the properties of metallic and non-metallic materials during commercial use.

Variation of entropy and volume of liquids with pressure and their Kauzmann- and Simon-type extrapolations toward zero entropy

G. P. Johari

Summary: The variation of entropy of a liquid with temperature and pressure is crucial for understanding glass-formation theories. This study utilizes data on volume changes with temperature and pressure to derive plots of excess entropy against pressure for different liquids, providing insights on the extrapolation of liquid properties under varying conditions.
