An extended maximum tangential strain energy density criterion considering T-stress for combined mode I-III brittle fracture

Wen Hua et al.

Summary: This study modified the MTSED criterion to consider stress intensity factors and T-stress for combined mode I-III brittle fracture. The influence of Poisson's ratio and T-stress on fracture characteristics of cracked components was discussed, showing significant effects on fracture resistance ratios, especially for pure mode III. Positive T-stress increases fracture resistance ratio while negative T-stress has the opposite effect. Predicted values by the extended MTSED criterion agree well with testing data, particularly for pure mode III cases.

Determination of SIFs and T-stress using an over-deterministic method based on stress fields: Static and dynamic

Cheng Hou et al.

Summary: The proposed method utilizes crack-tip stress fields to evaluate stress intensity factors and T-stress for different crack modes under various loading conditions. By solving over-deterministic equations, the optimal solution for SIFs and T-stress can be achieved. The method is shown to be simple and convenient, with satisfactory results obtained when accurate nodal coordinates and stresses are used. Additionally, the method can be applied to calculate higher-order coefficients of Williams' series expansion.

Research on the Seam Formation Mechanism of Elliptical Bipolar Linear Directional Blasting Based on the SPH-FEM Coupling Method

Bo Wu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the dynamic failure process between adjacent boreholes under an elliptical bipolar linear charge structure using the SPH-FEM coupling algorithm numerical simulation method. The best blasting results are achieved when the distance between adjacent holes is 110 cm. The superiority of elliptical bipolar linear blasting in engineering blasting was verified through field experiments.

An Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) Study on the Elastic T-Stress Evaluations for a Notch in a Pipe Steel Exposed to Internal Pressure

Khadija Yakoubi et al.

Summary: This research investigates the importance of T-stress in pressure cracked structures, analyzing its effects and improvements in elastic modeling. Numerical analysis using X-FEM and SDM is utilized to calculate T-stress in structures with external notches under internal pressure, while also examining the impact of notch geometry on biaxiality. Results are compared to previous literature to validate the promising findings.

A new method for measuring the dynamic fracture toughness under blast loads using arc-edge rectangle with edge notches

Jianfei Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the dynamic fracture behavior of rocks under blasting loads, using LAREN specimens as the basis for measuring dynamic fracture parameters. The research found that LAREN specimens can effectively reduce the influence of reflected tensile stress waves on dynamic crack initiation and propagation, demonstrating good applicability. With increasing pre-crack length, crack time becomes longer, average propagation speed becomes slower, and fluctuation in speed decreases and tends to stabilize.

The Influence of Background Ultrasonic Field on the Strength of Adhesive Zones under Dynamic Impact Loads

Grigory Volkov et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the influence of background ultrasonic field on the ultimate dynamic strength of adhesive joints, finding that specific frequencies of background vibrations can significantly decrease the threshold values of fracture impact load, and observing a non-monotonic dependency of threshold amplitude on pulse duration for weak background field, indicating the existence of optimal impact energy input regimes.

Numerical Study of the Strength and Characteristics of Sandstone Samples with Combined Double Hole and Double Fissure Defects

Junbiao Ma et al.

Summary: The study found that as the fissure angle decreases, rock with holes and fissures exhibits reduced failure properties, increased peak strain, and weakened brittleness. Different angles of defective rock lead to varied failure modes and crack propagation directions. During compression, stress concentration primarily occurs around holes, fissures, and defect connecting lines, and this concentration area decreases with decreasing fissure angle.
