Structure, mechanical properties and thermal stability of nitrogen-doped TaNbSiZrCr high entropy alloy coatings and their application to glass moulding and micro-drills

W. H. Kao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the properties of TaNbSiZrCr high entropy alloy coatings at different nitrogen-to-argon ratios, finding that moderate nitrogen addition is beneficial in preventing adhesion of the coatings to the glass interface. Additionally, the hardness of the deposited coatings increased with nitrogen content, while the annealing process did not significantly affect hardness. The surface energies of the coatings remained stable after annealing.

Influence of the nitrogen content on the structure and properties of MoNbTaVW high entropy alloy thin films

Ao Xia et al.

Summary: The influence of nitrogen incorporation on the chemical composition, structure, mechanical, and electrical properties of refractory (MoNbTaVW)(1-x)N-x high entropy alloy thin films is investigated in this study. The structural change from body centered cubic to face centered cubic with increasing nitrogen content resulted in increased hardness but also material embrittlement. The films were synthesized by two different physical vapor deposition methods onto silicon and polyimide substrates.

Investigation of (CrAlTiNbV)Nx high-entropy nitride coatings via tailoring nitrogen flow rate for anti-wear applications in aviation lubricant

Xiaolong Lu et al.

Summary: High-entropy nitride coatings (CrAlTiNbV)Nx are deposited by adjusting nitrogen flow rates. The study found that the S-38 sample exhibits the best plastic deformation resistance and adhesion strength, while the (CrAlTiNbV)Nx coating deposited at 38 sccm nitrogen flow rate shows the best tribological properties in 4050# aviation oil.

Fabrication of TiZrNbTaFeN high-entropy alloys coatings by HiPIMS: Effect of nitrogen flow rate on the microstructural development, mechanical and tribological performance, electrical properties and corrosion characteristics

Sameer Kamrudin Bachani et al.

Summary: TiZrNbTaFe and (TiZrNbTaFe)N high entropy alloy coatings were successfully deposited using HiPIMS at different nitrogen gas flow ratios. Coatings with 32.0 at.% nitrogen showed the highest hardness and corrosion resistance due to their fine microstructure and enhanced crystallinity. These coatings have potential as protective hard coatings.
