Risk factors associated with the development of oral mucositis in pediatric oncology patients: Systematic review and meta-analysis

Amanda de Farias Gabriel et al.

Summary: Oral mucositis is an acute toxicity related to cancer treatment, and potential risk factors identified in pediatric cancer patients include chemotherapeutic agents, hematological, hepatic, and renal parameters, as well as specific individual factors. Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis on the Associations of Polypharmacy and Potentially Inappropriate Medication With Adverse Outcomes in Older Cancer Patients

Li-Ju Chen et al.

Summary: The study found an association between polypharmacy and several adverse outcomes, as well as between PIM use and all-cause mortality in older cancer patients. However, caution is needed in interpreting these results as the majority of studies did not adjust for comorbidity and may be susceptible to confounding by indication.

The role of benzydamine in prevention and treatment of chemoradiotherapy-induced mucositis

Ourania Nicolatou-Galitis et al.

Summary: This document discusses the role of benzydamine in preventing and treating radiation-induced oral mucositis in head and neck cancer patients. Benzydamine is a local anti-inflammatory drug with analgesic properties that has been shown to effectively prevent and reduce the severity of oral mucositis in this patient population. While international guidelines recommend benzydamine for OM prevention and treatment in H&N cancer patients, further real world trials are needed to confirm its efficacy.

Impact of severe oral mucositis in pediatric cancer patients on resource utilization and cancer treatment plans

Farah Alsheyyab et al.

Summary: This study conducted in a comprehensive cancer center in Amman, Jordan, evaluated the impact of severe mucositis on resource utilization and treatment plans in pediatric cancer patients. The results showed that severe oral mucositis is associated with significant resource utilization and requires modification of treatment protocols, such as dose reduction, delay, or discontinuation of chemotherapy. Further studies are needed to identify strategies to reduce the impact of mucositis in pediatric cancer patients.
