High-temperature superconductivity in monolayer FeSe on SrTiO3 and related systems mediated by low energy plasmons

Tong Wei et al.

Summary: The study presents a universal mechanism of superconductivity based on the low effective carrier densities shared by many high-transition-temperature materials and the accompanying low energy plasmons. It demonstrates that the excitation of these plasmons can significantly reduce the Coulomb repulsion between electrons, facilitating electron pairing and superconductivity. This phonon + plasmon mechanism shows characteristic dependencies on carrier density and isotope substitution, and could have broad applicability in various superconducting systems with low carrier densities, including cuprates.
