Influence of heat treatment parameters on effectiveness of deep cryogenic treatment on properties of high-speed steels

Patricia Jovicevic-Klug et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of heat treatment parameters on the effectiveness of deep cryogenic treatment and the properties of high-speed steels with different chemical compositions. The results show that the effectiveness of deep cryogenic treatment is strongly influenced by the type of material, chemical composition, and heat treatment parameters, leading to either improvement or degradation of steel properties. Additionally, the study confirms that deep cryogenic treatment generally improves hardness, fatigue properties, toughness, strength, and strain hardening exponent for different HSS grades, although negative impacts may also be observed.

Summary: The study explores the relationship among size change, residual stress, and carbide precipitation of M50 bearing steel at working temperatures. It shows that the size change of bearing rings is influenced by both residual stress and carbide precipitation, with different factors dominating at different time intervals.

Effects of traditional heat treatment and a novel deep cryogenic treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of low-carbon high-alloy martensitic bearing steel

Dong-hui Li et al.

Summary: The traditional heat treatment and deep cryogenic treatment have different effects on the microstructure and mechanical properties of low-carbon high-alloy martensitic bearing steel. Deep cryogenic treatment can promote the transformation of austenite to martensite, increase the hardness of the sample, and facilitate the segregation of carbon atoms in martensite. This segregation of carbon atoms acts as nuclei for the formation of fine carbide particles during subsequent tempering, leading to an increase in hardness.
