Independence conditions and the analysis of life history studies with intermittent observation

Summary: Multistate models are used for analyzing life history processes, characterizing transition probabilities and state occupancy probabilities, and can handle data from random visit times. Joint multistate models can accommodate loss to follow-up time in the visit process, providing independence conditions and a basis for analysis. Studies show that suitably constructed joint models can yield consistent estimates of parameters even under dependent visit processes.
