Analysis on the ionospheric scintillation monitoring performance of ROTI extracted from GNSS observations in high-latitude regions

Dongsheng Zhao et al.

Summary: ROTI, as a scintillation index with potential for global geodetic receivers, shows generally consistent performance in validating scintillation occurrences in middle-high-latitude regions. However, it cannot achieve accurate scintillation monitoring at the epoch level across different selected stations.

Statistical study on the characterization of phase and amplitude scintillation events in the high-latitude region during 2014-2020 based on ISMR

Dongsheng Zhao et al.

Summary: A statistical study on the characterization of phase and amplitude scintillation events in the high-latitude region is conducted in this paper. Results show that phase scintillation dominates in most of the high-latitude regions, with stronger intensity in the middle-high latitude region. The duration of scintillation in this region is generally shorter. The occurrence of ionospheric scintillation is influenced by seasonal and diurnal factors as well as space weather parameters such as Ap and IMF.

Assessment of the predictive capabilities of NIGTEC model over Nigeria during geomagnetic storms

Paul Obiakara Amaechi et al.

Summary: The Nigerian Total Electron Content (NIGTEC) model shows good capability in predicting TEC variability during geomagnetic storms, but it struggles with accuracy in certain situations such as predicting TEC increases after sudden impulses and changes in VTEC driven by storm time neutral winds.

Mitigating high latitude ionospheric scintillation effects on GNSS Precise Point Positioning exploiting 1-s scintillation indices

Kai Guo et al.

Summary: Ionospheric scintillation involves rapid and random fluctuations in radio frequency signal intensity and phase, especially in high latitudes. This study analyzes GPS scintillation data and proposes a novel approach to mitigate scintillation effects at high latitudes, leading to reduced 3D positioning errors.

Summary: The geomagnetic Kp index is widely used for scientific and operational purposes. This article reviews the properties of the Kp index and provides a reference for users. The near real-time production of the nowcast Kp index is particularly important for space weather services and is described and evaluated in the article.

The effect of space weather on the ionosphere at the 110° meridian during CAWSES-II period

Olga Maltseva et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of solar wind and interplanetary magnetic field parameters on the total electron content and critical frequency of the ionosphere in March 7-17, 2012. The ionosphere exhibited different responses to disturbances at various latitudes, showing negative anomalies at high latitudes, positive anomalies at low latitudes, and signs of a super-fountain effect. The IRI model exhibited varying reactions to disturbances in different latitude ranges, with stronger influences observed in the zone of 37.5 degrees N-62.5 degrees N.
