Extreme Environmental Thermal Shock Induced Dislocation-Rich Pt Nanoparticles Boosting Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Siliang Liu et al.

Summary: A non-equilibrium high-temperature thermal-shock method was utilized to induce rich dislocations in Pt nanocrystals, enhancing their catalytic performance. The extreme environmental conditions and ultrafast cooling rate allow for the kinetic freezing of dislocations induced during the crystallization process. This approach presents a novel way to optimize the crystal and electronic structures of nanomaterials for improved catalytic properties.

A comparative study on the twinning boundaries of five-fold twinned copper and gold nanorods

Ting Nie et al.

Summary: This study investigated the structural characteristics and chemisorption energies of five-fold twinned copper and gold nanorods using large-scale structure searching and quantum calculations. The results revealed that the gold twinning boundary has a more regular structure with potential defects in local areas, while the copper twinning region is less compact with fewer defects. Surface adsorption calculations demonstrated varying degrees of chemisorption enhancement at different sites.

Mastering the surface strain of platinum catalysts for efficient electrocatalysis

Tianou He et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that by depositing ultrathin Pt shells on palladium-based nanocubes, strain in the Pt(100) lattice can be induced and adjusted, leading to tunable electrocatalytic activity for specific reactions. By controlling the lattice strain, the researchers were able to optimize the performance of Pt catalysts for a wide range of reactions, showing different strain-activity correlations for different reactions.

General synthesis of single-atom catalysts with high metal loading using graphene quantum dots

Chuan Xia et al.

Summary: A general method was reported for synthesizing single-atom catalysts with high transition-metal-atom loadings, showing significant improvements compared to benchmarks in the literature. The use of graphene quantum dots interwoven into a carbon matrix provided anchoring sites for high densities of transition-metal atoms without aggregation. An increase in activity was demonstrated in electrochemical CO2 reduction on a Ni single-atom catalyst with increased Ni loading.
