A crosstalk correction method to improve multi-wavelength LEDs imaging quality based on color camera and frame accumulation

This paper proposes a crosstalk correction method combined with a frame accumulation technique to improve the image quality of multi-wavelength LEDs imaging systems. The experimental results show that the method effectively suppresses color crosstalk and improves the fidelity and similarity of the images.
Multi-wavelength LEDs imaging systems based on color camera has the advantages of low cost, convenience, and high performance, but the spectral overlap of the light source and color image sensor (CIS) leads to crosstalk between different channel images, which influences the image quality. Therefore, a crosstalk correction method combined with a frame accumulation technique is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is verified by the following experiments: Firstly, three LEDs with different wavelengths are used as the light source separately to acquire single-wavelength images in the calibration experiment. Then, the above three LEDs are used as the light source together to acquire multi-wavelength images. Frame accumulation technique is used to improve the SNR of acquired images, thereby enabling more accurate crosstalk coefficient matrix calculation Finally, the corrected intensity of R/G/B channels of the multi-wavelength image is obtained according to the established crosstalk correction equation. By comparison, visual information fidelity (VIF) of the corrected G-channel and B-channel image is increased by 28.2% and 40.7%, and structural similarity (SSIM) of B-channel image has also increased by 21.3%. The experimental results demonstrate that the method can effectively suppress color crosstalk between trichromatic channels of multi-wavelength images, which provides the reference for improving the quality of multispectral images.
