Nanofiltration of saline oil-water emulsions: Combined and individual effects of salt concentration polarization and fouling by oil

Charifa A. Hejase et al.

Summary: This study used NF270 nanofiltration membranes and SDS-stabilized hexadecane to investigate the membrane fouling mechanisms by highly saline oil-water emulsions. The research found that oil caused a sudden decrease in permeate flux only for more saline feeds, and over the longer term, the additional hydraulic resistance due to a layer of oil droplets on the membrane surface became the dominant fouling mechanism.

Photocatalytic and antifouling properties of electrospun TiO2 polyacrylonitrile composite nanofibers under visible light

Chris Ademola Bode-Aluko et al.

Summary: Polyacrylonitrile and its TiO2 composites were electrospun into nanofibers for photocatalysis and antifouling experiments, showing superhydrophobicity. The polyacrylonitrile-TiO2 nanofibers exhibited higher degradation of methylene blue and production of OH radicals compared to polyacrylonitrile nanofibers under visible light. Additionally, the polyacrylonitrile-TiO2 nanofibers demonstrated antimicrobial properties, inhibiting the growth of bacteria, particularly Bacillus sp., under visible light conditions.

Novel High Flux Poly(m-phenylene isophtalamide)/TiO2 Membranes for Ultrafiltration with Enhanced Antifouling Performance

Mariia Dmitrenko et al.

Summary: The study focuses on enhancing the ultrafiltration properties of PA membranes by modification with TiO2 particles, resulting in improved separation performance, antifouling stability, and cleaning ability. The PA/TiO2 membrane with 0.3 wt.% TiO2 exhibited optimal transport characteristics in ultrafiltration of coolant lubricant emulsion, with high fluxes and flux recovery ratio. After prolonged ultrafiltration of BSA, the membrane showed improved surface contamination degradation ability and high flux recovery ratio after UV irradiation.
