Emission characteristics of nitrogen and sulfur containing pollutants during the pyrolysis of oily sludge with and without catalysis

Wu-Jun Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the emission characteristics of nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) containing pollutants during the pyrolysis of oily sludge with and without the catalyst FeMg layer double hydroxide (FeMg LDH). The results showed that FeMg LDH could efficiently suppress the emission of N-/S-containing pollutants, with amide and heterocyclic-N species identified as primary sources of N-containing pollutants emission, and aliphatic- and disulfides-S as the main contributions to S-pollutants emission. Comprehensive analysis of pollutants emission characteristics could provide insights for sustainable management of hazardous solid wastes.

Stakeholder coordination analysis in hazardous waste management: a case study in China

Xiaoqian Song et al.

Summary: This research utilized stakeholder analysis and social network analysis to analyze stakeholder coordination in hazardous waste management in a chemical industrial park. The study found that governmental supervision has interest but less power, third-party supervision has medium interest but limited knowledge, firms have low power but interest, waste treatment companies have the most power and interest but limited knowledge, while NGOs, research institutes, and media have interest and knowledge but less power. Most stakeholders have a positive attitude, and local supervision plays an important role in stakeholder coordination. NGOs and research institutes have the potential to improve stakeholder coordination through information exchange.

Mechanism Investigation on a Novel Oil Recovery Skimmer Coupling Free Surface Vortex and Cyclone Separation

Wei An et al.

Summary: The novel skimmer is able to effectively recover spilled oil on the sea surface and speed up the recovery process. The experimental results show a linear relationship between recovery efficiency and split ratio, and the oil content at the overflow port is influenced by spilled oil amount and split ratio.

Investigation on desorption of petroleum hydrocarbon contaminants by active and passive particle self-rotation

Tai Xiong et al.

Summary: Particle self-rotation is a common phenomenon that enhances the desorption of pollutants in natural environments and industrial fluids. Both active and passive self-rotation can improve diesel desorption efficiency, with active self-rotation increasing efficiency by approximately 65.1%. The study suggests the possibility of reducing surfactant usage by utilizing particle self-rotation.
