Flotation performance of a novel Gemini collector for kaolinite at low temperature

Shiyong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study introduced a novel amino-based Gemini surfactant BBDB as a collector for kaolinite flotation, which showed better performance than the common monomolecular surfactant DDA at low temperature. The tests results indicated that BBDB could significantly improve the hydrophobicity of the kaolinite surface and achieve higher kaolinite recovery rates compared to DDA.

A comparative investigation into floatability of bastnaesite with three di/trialkyl phosphate surfactants

Hongli Fan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the flotation performance of bastnaesite using three phosphate collectors, with DEHPA showing the best flotation recovery. The research also suggested that DEHPA likely reacts with the Ce(III) atoms of bastnaesite interface to generate Ce-O-P bonds, aiding in the enrichment of bastnaesite through flotation.

1-Hydroxydodecylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid flotation of bastnasite: Performance and mechanism

Hongli Fan et al.

Summary: The study found that bastnasite exhibited good floatability using HDDPA as a collector at pH 7.0-10.0, with efficient separation from calcite at around pH 8.0. HDDPA(3)- anions were able to replace CO32- ions on the bastnasite surface, resulting in a high flotation recovery. However, increasing OH concentration reduced the floatability of bastnasite as competition with HDDPA anions intensified.

Adsorption mechanisms of fatty acids on fluorite unraveled by infrared spectroscopy and first-principles calculations

Yann Foucaud et al.

Summary: The research combined diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the adsorption mechanisms of fatty acids on minerals. It was found that at low concentrations, the asymmetric stretching vibration of COO peaks at 1560 cm(-1), while at higher concentrations, it appears as a doublet at 1535 cm(-1) and 1575 cm(-1). The study highlighted the role of carboxylate countercation for the first time, offering new insights for developing innovative strategies to enhance mineral separation contrast.

Investigating the performance of oxalic acid for separating bastnaesite from calcium-bearing gangue minerals based on experiment and theoretical calculation

Xinyu Zhu et al.

Summary: The selective inhibition mechanism of oxalic acid on common calcium-bearing gangue minerals in bastnaesite flotation was studied, showing that oxalic acid competes with H205 for the active site on the surface of the gangue minerals, reducing their surface hydrophobicity and inhibiting their floating. In this process, fluorite is more inhibited than calcite.

New insights into the depressive mechanism of citric acid in the selective flotation of scheelite from fluorite

Liuyang Dong et al.

Summary: The study showed that citric acid acted as a depressant for fluorite in the separation process with scheelite, enabling good flotation separation effect between the two minerals. This was due to the stronger adsorption of citric acid onto the fluorite surface, forming an organic complex, and causing a strong dissolution behavior on the fluorite surface, reducing the adsorption sites for calcium ions.

Separation of wolframite ore by froth flotation using a novel crab structure sebacoyl hydroxamic acid collector without Pb(NO3)2 activation

Shiyong Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a new hydroxamic-acid molecule, sebacoyl hydroxamic acid (SHA), was synthesized and used as a collector for wolframite flotation. The results showed that SHA collector achieved higher wolframite recovery at a lower dosage compared to the traditional collector, and it also eliminated the need for lead ions during the flotation process.
