Insight into BDD electrochemical oxidation of florfenicol in water: Kinetics, reaction mechanism, and toxicity

Selvendiran Periyasamy et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that electrochemical advanced oxidation treatment with boron-doped diamond anode is effective for the degradation of florfenicol (FLO) in water, showing improved removal efficiency and reaction rate constant with increasing current intensity. The presence of free hydroxyl radicals (OH) and sulfate radicals (SO4-) during the process contributes to faster degradation and higher mineralization of the FLO solution.

Han Yu et al.

Summary: The novel urea precipitation method for anode formation in photo-electro catalysis resulted in higher porosity and enhanced photo/electrochemical activity and degradation performances. The indirect route, mainly .Cl, shared a significant contribution in degradation work by TSSA-U, with the total degradation ratio between 41.8-90.1%. The application of BP-ANN-P modeling showed that both direct and indirect routes were affected by factors such as current density and pH level.

Oxygen Vacancy-Induced Nonradical Degradation of Organics: Critical Trigger of Oxygen (O2) in the Fe-Co LDH/Peroxymonosulfate System

Liying Wu et al.

Summary: Ubiquitous oxygen vacancies in metallic compounds can activate peroxymonosulfate for water treatment, with O-2 identified as a critical trigger. Mechanistic studies show that Vo captures electrons to form O-2 and withdraws electrons from organics for degradation. The collaboration of kinetics and thermodynamics allows PMS to donate electrons to Vo, forming intermediate species that accelerate the electron-recycling process and improve organic degradation.

Defect Engineering on a Ti4O7 Electrode by Ce3+ Doping for the Efficient Electrooxidation of Perfluorooctanesulfonate

Hui Lin et al.

Summary: Defect engineering, such as Ce3+ doping, was used in this study to enhance the electrochemical reactivity of Ti4O7, resulting in accelerated interfacial charge transfer and increased production of hydroxyl radicals. The Ce3+-doped Ti4O7 electrodes exhibited more stable electrocatalytic activity and were able to effectively mineralize PFOS, with a higher oxidation rate compared to pristine Ti4O7 electrodes. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results suggest that Ce(3+) doping created oxygen vacancies that contributed to the enhanced reactivity and stability of the electrodes.

Electrochemical degradation of tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate by metal-oxide-coated Ti anodes: Kinetics, toxicity and mechanism

Lei Xu et al.

Summary: The study successfully demonstrated the degradation of aqueous TCEP using metal-oxide-coated Ti anodes. Among the tested electrodes, Ti/SnO2-Sb/La-PbO2 exhibited the highest reaction rate constant and lowest energy consumption during TCEP degradation, primarily due to its superior oxygen evolution potential and (OH)-O-center dot production. The electrochemical oxidation process proved to be feasible and effective for mineralization and detoxification of TCEP in water, with higher current density and neutral conditions favoring the degradation.
