Detection of Knocking Combustion Using the Continuous Wavelet Transformation and a Convolutional Neural Network

Achilles Kefalas et al.

Summary: The study proposes an efficient method for detecting knocking combustion in internal combustion engines using continuous wavelet transformation and convolutional neural network. The approach outperformed existing methods, improving accuracy by 6.15 percentage points. The CWT + CNN method does not require calibrating threshold values for different engines or operating conditions, as long as diverse data is used for training.

Adaptive in-cylinder pressure model for spark ignition engine control

Benjamin Pla et al.

Summary: The study proposes a model-based method to estimate in-cylinder pressure by combining a control-oriented model with sensor information available in current production engines for automotive applications. The adaptive model, using an extended Kalman filter, improves the estimation of pressure peak location through knock sensor signal. The approach shows continuous estimation of in-cylinder pressure signal and enhancement in estimation of combustion parameters and cylinder variations in a four-cylinder light-duty engine.
