Autonomous ROV Inspections of Aquaculture Net Pens Using DVL

Herman B. Amundsen et al.

Summary: This article introduces a method for guiding a remotely operated vehicle through an aquaculture net pen by approximating the geometry of the net pen and using a nonlinear guidance law to minimize crosstrack error. The Lyapunov analysis shows that the ROV can follow a continuous path in the presence of a constant irrotational ocean current. Simulations and experiments demonstrate the performance of the net pen approximation and control system.

ROV Navigation in a Fish Cage with Laser-Camera Triangulation

Magnus Bjerkeng et al.

Summary: The paper presents laser-camera triangulation for pose estimation in aquaculture net cage inspection, enabling autonomous net following for underwater vehicles. Experimental results show that laser triangulation is comparable to the performance of a doppler velocity log (DVL) in terms of distance and angular pose measurements. Laser triangulation is a promising and cost-effective short distance ranging sensor for autonomous vehicles when compared to acoustic sensors.
