Talent designation in practice: an equation of high potential, performance and mobility

Stefan Jooss et al.

Summary: This study examines the boundary between performance and potential in talent management, finding that high performance and high potential are commonly spoken about when referring to talent. However, there is often a lack of clarity around potential, with a conflation between it and performance. Mobility emerges as a critical contextual factor in determining talent designation. The study contributes to talent management literature by providing a more nuanced approach in understanding how talent is enacted in practice in an underexplored empirical context.

Competing institutional logics in talent management: talent identification at the HQ and a subsidiary

Daniel Tyskbo

Summary: The study found that existing research on talent management is overly unitarist and managerialist, with limited understanding of how local contextual factors relate to talent management. Through a qualitative case study, it was discovered that the practice of talent identification is grounded in the logic adopted by organizational actors, and the cultural norms, symbols, and practices of different institutional orders are incorporated into talent identification.
