Accession difference in leaf photosynthesis, root hydraulic conductance and gene expression of root aquaporins under salt stress in barley seedlings

Asuka Kodama et al.

Summary: Soil salinity can lead to significant losses in crop productivity. The salt-tolerant barley accession showed higher net photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance under salt stress, with differences in gene expression of root aquaporins and root hydraulic conductance between the salt-sensitive and salt-tolerant accessions. These differences contribute to the variation in plant responses to short-term salt stress.

Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of Persian walnut usingBADHgene for salt and drought tolerance

Fatemeh Rezaei Qusheh Bolagh et al.

Summary: Transgenic walnuts expressing the BADH gene showed enhanced tolerance to salt and drought stress conditions compared to their wild-type counterparts. The integration of the BADH transgene was successfully confirmed through PCR and Southern blot analysis. This research demonstrates the potential of utilizing transgenic walnut plants for breeding programs aimed at improving resistance to salinity and drought.

Silicon Alleviate Hypoxia Stress by Improving Enzymatic and Non-enzymatic Antioxidants and Regulating Nutrient Uptake in Muscadine Grape (Muscadinia rotundifolia Michx.)

Zafar Iqbal et al.

Summary: Flooding-induced hypoxia stress causes damage to plants by reducing green pigments, gas exchange, and photosynthetic activity, but the application of silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs) can enhance antioxidant activities, osmoprotectant accumulation, and micronutrient regulation to help plants combat hypoxia stress more efficiently.

Physiological Responses and Gene Expression Patterns in Open-Pollinated Seedlings of a Pummelo-Mandarin Hybrid Rootstock Exposed to Salt Stress and Huanglongbing

Lamiaa M. Mahmoud et al.

Summary: Huanglongbing (HLB) caused by Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CaLas) is a significant threat to the global citrus industry, while salinity is a major abiotic stress affecting citrus production. This study evaluated the tolerance of open-pollinated seedlings of the S10 rootstock to HLB and salinity stresses. The results showed that selected S10 lines have potential as salt-tolerant rootstocks for 'Valencia' sweet orange under endemic HLB conditions.

The response of salt-stressed Valencia sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) to salicylic acid and methyl jasmonate treatments

Lamiaa M. Mahmoud et al.

Summary: The study showed that treatments with salicylic acid (SA) and methyl jasmonate (MeJA) can alleviate the negative effects of salinity on citrus trees, promoting growth and enhancing chlorophyll content. Additionally, these treatments increased the expression of enzymatic antioxidants and altered the expression of certain genes.
