Carbon sources supporting macrobenthic crustaceans in tropical eastern pacific mangroves

Diana Medina-Contreras et al.

Summary: Crustaceans play a crucial role in tropical mangroves in terms of abundance, occurrence, biomass, function, and human welfare. This study explores the carbon utilization patterns of crustaceans and the isotopic composition of carbon sources in three different geomorphological mangrove systems. The results show that geomorphology influences the isotopic composition of primary sources and crustaceans, but the main trophic pathways remain consistent across all three systems.

Mercury, selenium, and stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes in the striped marlin Kajikia audax and blue marlin Makaira nigricans food web from the Gulf of California

Alfredo Ordiano-Flores et al.

Summary: Mercury concentrations vary among different marlin species, possibly due to predation behaviors, as indicated by gut content and stable isotope analyses. While mercury biomagnification is evident in both marlin species, selenium biomagnification is not clearly demonstrated, with Se:Hg ratios decreasing with trophic level increase.
