Sulfate removal from lignite coal mine drainage in Thailand using ettringite precipitation

Norapat Pratinthong et al.

Summary: The study investigated the optimum conditions for sulfate removal from lignite coal mine drainage in Thailand using ettringite precipitation. Results showed that the Al/S ratio and reaction time significantly affected sulfate removal efficiency, while the Ca/S ratio had no significant impact. Under the optimal conditions, high sulfate removal efficiencies were achieved in both Lamphun and Lampang mine drainage, demonstrating the effectiveness of ettringite precipitation in sulfate removal.

Refractive index-assisted UV/Vis spectrophotometry to overcome spectral interference by impurities

Airin Antony et al.

Summary: One major challenge in the application of UV/Vis spectrophotometry for concentration determination is spectral interference from contaminants, which can cause large errors. Current methods to address this issue are often slow and inefficient. Constrained refractometry is proposed as a rapid technique to assist UV/Vis spectrophotometry in reducing errors caused by spectral interference, showing significant improvements in concentration determination accuracy even with multiple unknown interfering contaminants.

Single-Atom Fe Catalyst Outperforms Its Homogeneous Counterpart for Activating Peroxymonosulfate to Achieve Effective Degradation of Organic Contaminants

Kun Qian et al.

Summary: In this study, FeN4 structures were constructed on carbon nanotubes to obtain single-atom catalysts, which successfully generated reactive iron species (RFeS) for the selective degradation of emerging organic contaminants (EOCs) over a wide pH range. The results revealed the mechanism of RFeS generation and the important role of carbon nanotubes in enhancing the reactivity of FeN4=O intermediates.

Sulfate removal from industrial wastewater in a hydroponic system planted with Bidens pilosa L

M. S. Mthembu et al.

Summary: The study evaluated sulfate removal in a hydropond planted with B. pilosa, showing a removal rate of 76% in the planted section. Temperature negatively impacted sulfate removal, while dissolved oxygen and pH had a positive correlation with sulfate removal in both planted and reference sections.
