Occurrence and risk assessment of organophosphate esters in urban rivers from Piracicaba watershed (Brazil)

Joyce Cristale et al.

Summary: This study investigated the occurrence and sources of ten OPEs in the Piracicaba River Basin in Brazil. It was found that OPE levels were higher in urban areas compared to rural and non-urban areas, with nine OPEs detected at higher concentrations in a site affected by textile industry effluents.

Seasonal occurrence, allocation and ecological risk of organophosphate esters in a typical urbanized semi-closed bay

Tingting Wu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the seasonal occurrence and allocation of 12 organophosphate esters (OPEs) in water and sediment samples from the Jiaozhou Bay and surrounding rivers, finding a significant impact of terrestrial input on OPE contamination. The spatial distribution of OPEs in seawater varied seasonally and was influenced by terrestrial input and tidal currents. The partition coefficients of OPEs were strongly correlated with their hydrophobicity, indicating significant effects on water-sediment allocation.

Effects of salinity on the chronic toxicity of 4-methylbenzylidene camphor (4-MBC) in the marine copepod Tigriopus japonicus

Haizheng Hong et al.

Summary: The study revealed that environmentally relevant concentrations of 4-MBC have toxic effects on Tigriopus japonicus, with increasing salinity levels further enhancing its lethal, developmental, and reproductive toxicities. This may be attributed to the higher salinity levels increasing the uptake rate constant and bioconcentration factor of 4-MBC, exacerbating the oxidative stress induced by 4-MBC exposure in T. japonicus.

Comprehensive evaluation of organophosphate ester contamination in surface water and sediment of the Bohai Sea, China

Yanjie Qi et al.

Summary: The study investigated the occurrence and distribution of 14 organophosphate esters (OPEs) in surface water and sediment of the whole Bohai Sea. Results showed a wide range of concentrations for OPEs, but the ecological risks to aquatic organisms in the Bohai Sea were considered negligible.

Occurrence, spatiotemporal distribution, and ecological risks of organophosphate esters in the water of the Yellow River to the Laizhou Bay, Bohai Sea

Maoshan Lian et al.

Summary: Limited information is available on the spatial and temporal distribution of organophosphate esters (OPEs) in coastal environments. The study found that rivers were the major source of OPEs in Laizhou Bay, and the concentrations of dominant OPE species were higher in the surface water. Additionally, OPE concentrations were generally higher in summer compared to spring.
