Modeling Bioavailable Concentrations in Zebrafish Cell Lines and Embryos Increases the Correlation of Toxicity Potencies across Test Systems

Sebastian Lungu-Mitea et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the bioavailable effect concentrations in zebrafish cell lines and embryos, resulting in a high positive correlation between cell- and embryo-based test systems, and differences in sensitivity and predictability of cytotoxicity endpoints. The hepatocyte cell line showed closer proximity to the embryo data.

Applications of the RTgill-W1 Cell Line for Acute Whole-Effluent Toxicity Testing: In Vitro-In Vivo Correlation and Optimization of Exposure Conditions

Justin Scott et al.

Summary: The RTgill-W1 cell line has been evaluated as an in vitro alternative model for acute fish whole-effluent toxicity (WET) testing. Significant correlations were found between in vitro EC50 values and in vivo LC50 values for certain toxicants commonly found in effluent samples when compared to freshwater and marine fish species. Additionally, manipulation of medium osmotic ranges enhanced sensitivity to nickel toxicity in the cells.

Analysis and prediction of produced water quantity and quality in the Permian Basin using machine learning techniques

Wenbin Jiang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed historical produced water quantity and quality data in the NM portion of the Permian Basin from 1995 to 2019, using machine learning algorithms to predict PW quantity for different types of oil and gas wells. The Random Forest Regression model showed high prediction accuracy, while the AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average model performed well in predicting PW volume in time series.

Biomineralization of hypersaline produced water using microbially induced calcite precipitation

Lei Hu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the feasibility of using MICP for removing Ca2+ and toxic contaminants from hypersaline produced water (PW), achieving high removal efficiencies in batch and continuous studies. Metagenomic sequencing analysis reveals the construction of a stable ureolytic bacterial consortium in the continuous biofiltration system. The combination of MICP and ammonium recovery significantly reduces the acute toxicity of PW towards Vibrio fischeri.

Characterization of ionic liquid cytotoxicity mechanisms in human keratinocytes compared with conventional biocides

Martin McLaughlin et al.

Summary: The study found that ILs with longer alkyl chains exhibited greater biocidal activity at relevant concentrations, comparable to commonly used biocides. The primary cytotoxic mechanism was determined to be necrosis, with apoptosis observed at lower concentrations. The modification of anion significantly affected cytotoxicity, indicating that cytotoxicity may be a tuneable property when using ILs as biocides.
