Land-use zoning management to protecting the Regional Key Ecosystem Services: A case study in the city belt along the Chaobai River, China

Xiao Li et al.

Summary: The paper examines the tradeoffs and synergies among ecosystem services, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing protection and management of key ecosystem services. Through empirical research and model analysis, water yield was identified as the Regional Key Ecosystem Service in the study area. A land zoning approach was proposed to protect the RKES and ensure ecological security and sustainable use.

Spatiotemporal analysis of ecological vulnerability in the Tibet Autonomous Region based on a pressure-state-response-management framework

Yongjian Jiang et al.

Summary: This study assessed the ecological vulnerability of the Tibet Autonomous Region based on a new PSRM model, showing a gradual improvement in the region's ecological environment from 2000 to 2015. The expansion of cities led to an increase in the proportion of non-vulnerable areas, but human activities had a greater impact in urban regions.

Construction of a human-wildlife spatial interaction index in the Three-River Source Region, China

Bingran Ma et al.

Summary: With rapid economic development and increased ecological protection, the interactions between humans and wildlife are becoming more intense, necessitating the evaluation of potential negative interactions and the implementation of mitigation measures. The Three-Rivers Source Region showed relatively low levels of human-wildlife spatial interactions, but higher potential interactions were found in areas with roads and railways. Managers should focus on areas with high interactions between carnivores and livestock, herbivores and livestock, and consider suitable mitigation measures. The developed 'human-wildlife spatial interaction index' could serve as a baseline reference for identifying areas with potential high levels of human-wildlife interactions and determining places where negative interactions can be mitigated in other regions worldwide.

Efficacy and management challenges of the zoning designations of China ' s national parks

Yujun Wang et al.

Summary: China is transforming the management of protected areas by establishing a national park system with zoning designations to balance conservation and development needs. Using the Giant Panda National Park in Sichuan Province as a case study, the effectiveness of the park's zoning designations in protecting critical habitat areas for pandas and managing human disturbances was evaluated. The core zone of the park performs well in covering panda habitat but still faces challenges with human disturbances.

Spatio-temporal changes of ecological vulnerability across the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau

Mu Xia et al.

Summary: This study utilizes an Ecological Vulnerability Index (EVI) and 17 indicators to analyze the ecological vulnerability threats faced by the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau over the past 15 years, with results indicating vegetation as the primary driver of ecological vulnerability. Significant variations in ecological vulnerability trends were observed between Tibet Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province.

Targeted conservation management of white pines in China: Integrating phylogeographic structure, niche modeling, and conservation gap analyses

Lele Lin et al.

Summary: The study evaluated conservation priorities for white pine species in China by integrating phylogeography, ecological niche modeling, and conservation gap analysis. It revealed that targeted conservation management is urgently needed to ensure effective protection and maintain genetic diversity of white pine species in China, especially for poorly protected endangered species in southern China.
