Enhanced electrocatalytic denitrification using non-noble Ni-Fe electrode supplied by Fe3O4 nanoparticle and humic acid

Zohreh Akbari Jonoush et al.

Summary: The study found that Fe3O4 nanoparticles and humic acids significantly improve the reduction efficiency of nitrate and decrease the concentration of NH4+ in electrocatalytic denitrification using a non-noble Ni-Fe cathode. These materials also increase the selectivity to N2 while reducing energy consumption and the production of dangerous by-products.

Effect of supporting matrixes on performance of copper catalysts in electrochemical nitrate reduction to ammonia

Jingsha Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of three different supporting matrixes on the NRA performance of Cu-based catalysts, with Ni foam-supported Cu catalyst showing the best performance. The study demonstrates that the Ni foam as supporting matrix induces Ni doping to Cu catalyst, favoring the atomic hydrogen reduction pathway and leading to improved NH3 yield rates and selectivity. Additionally, the Cu@NF catalyst exhibits excellent stability over consecutive cycles, showing promise for future design of supporting matrixes for electrocatalytic systems.

Nitrate, arsenic and fluoride removal by electrodialysis from brackish groundwater

Mehran Aliaskari et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of operational and water quality parameters on brackish water decontamination using a batch electrodialysis (ED) system. The results showed the significance of ionic characteristics in ED, with nitrate concentrations satisfying guideline threshold in all experiments. Lowest arsenic(V) concentration was 35 mu g/L at the highest electric potential, 25 V, demonstrating the potential of ED in environmentally friendly processes.

Nitrate reduction through the visible-light photoelectrocatalysis and photoelectrocatalysis/reverse osmosis processes: Assessment of graphene/Ag/N-TiO2 nanocomposite

Mohsen Sheydaei et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the reduction efficiency of nitrate through the photoelectrocatalytic process under different conditions. Results indicate that the nitrate reduction efficiency in the photoelectrocatalytic process is significantly higher than sorption, photocatalysis, and electrocatalysis. By optimizing the process, 33% of nitrate was reduced to NO2- and NH4+ within 120 minutes, with more than 50% of reduction products being volatile compounds such as N-2 and N2O.

Iron oxide minerals promote simultaneous bio-reduction of Cr(VI) and nitrate: Implications for understanding natural attenuation

Yutian Hu et al.

Summary: Iron oxide minerals can significantly enhance the ability of microorganisms to simultaneously reduce nitrate and Cr(VI), leading to increased reduction rates. Their addition strengthens biofilm formation, shapes microbial communities, and upregulates the expression levels of functional genes. The activities of nitrate and chromate reductases are also significantly increased.

Assessment of drinking water quality for raw water and treated water at Kangar, Perlis, Malaysia

V. Y. T. Karen et al.

Summary: Clean and safe water is essential for human health. A study was conducted to investigate the water quality parameters at Timah Tasoh Dam, showing that the water was slightly polluted and sources of pollution included fishery activities. Treatment plants in the area showed varying concentrations of heavy metals, with Taman Bukit Kaya recording the highest levels. Despite this, the treated water met the drinking water quality standards set by WHO and NSDWQ in Perlis.
