Animal identity and space as represented in South Korean geography textbooks

Chul-Ki Cho et al.

Summary: This paper examines the representation of animal identity and space in South Korean world geography textbooks using content analysis. It finds that animals are portrayed as passive products of the natural environment, objects worth preserving, and living bio-capital. The study concludes that these perspectives limit students' opportunities to critically observe animals. Future animal geography education should enable students to perceive animals as political and ethical subjects with their own lives, needs, and possibly self-awareness. Therefore, the study proposes a more-than-human geography education to provide students with alternative perspectives on animal identity and space.

Mindsets matter for teachers, too: Growth mindset about teaching ability predicts teachers' enjoyment and engagement

Cherry E. Frondozo et al.

Summary: Previous research has primarily focused on students' beliefs about the malleability of their intelligence, but this study suggests that teachers' beliefs about the malleability of their teaching ability are also important. Holding a growth mindset about their teaching ability positively influences teachers' enjoyment and work engagement.
