Muscle Shear Elastic Modulus Provides an Indication of the Protection Conferred by the Repeated Bout Effect

Emeric Chalchat et al.

Summary: This study found that the mechanical properties of the quadriceps, as evaluated by shear wave elastography, were less affected when a second bout of eccentric-biased exercise was performed 2 weeks later. It was also observed that the first bout of exercise conferred protection against extensive muscle damage, possibly through an adaptation of the muscle stiffness.

Effects of Hip Flexion on Knee Extension and Flexion Isokinetic Angle-Specific Torques and HQ-Ratios

Christian Baumgart et al.

Summary: The study found that hip angle, muscle contraction mode, and velocity have an impact on isokinetic knee strength. Most parameters were lower in knee flexion and at 90 degrees of hip flexion. Furthermore, angle-specific analyses were found to be more accurate than conventional parameters in assessing knee strength.

Greater Hamstrings Muscle Hypertrophy but Similar Damage Protection after Training at Long versus Short Muscle Lengths

Sumiaki Maeo et al.

Summary: The study found that seated leg curl training can effectively increase hamstring muscle size, while also reducing susceptibility to muscle damage induced by eccentric exercise, compared to prone leg curl training.

Individual differences in the distribution of activation among the hamstring muscle heads during stiff-leg Deadlift and Nordic hamstring exercises

Aurelie Boyer et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the distribution of muscle activation among the semimembranosus, semitendinosus, and biceps femoris during different exercises. Individual variations in the most active muscle were observed, with stiff-leg Deadlift favoring semimembranosus and Nordic hamstring exercise favoring semitendinosus. The contribution of biceps femoris activation varied between individuals and was correlated between the two exercises.
